The main character of “Uncertain Times” is Adnijio Benjamin Franklin Jones, a child of the South who makes his living as a nature photographer. He has had numerous tabletop photography books published and is currently shooting photos for a book of "Mysterious Caddo Lake" in East Texas.
The book meshes two main themes: 1) The revolving cast of characters he comes across in the small town of Uncertain and the problems and opportunities he encounters as a newcomer; and 2) To pass the time, Adj, a willing victim of ADHD, often dreams about past events, setting up some quirky slapstick and all-too-real observations about life in general and adolescence in particular.

Uncertain Inhabitants
While in Uncertain, Adj. meets:.
- Widder Gleason, a reclusive artist who is younger than she looks, with secrets he could never imagine.
- Harmony and Bother Ledbetter, the town bullies who take an instant dislike to the newcomer. That's not exactly true. Heck, they hate everybody.
- Sheriff Johnnie Twiddle, a prototypical Texas sheriff who believes he's the ultimate authority and that carrying a badge gives him the right to do whatever he wants to do to enforce not just the law, but his will.
- Rayon Finnigan, the worst storyteller on the planet.
- Herman Butcher, owner of the local cafe, whose entire conversational repertoire is rather limited.
- Jeb, a disabled railroad worker who befriends Adj ... and fully expects to pay the price for the friendship.
- Thompson, an old rodeo cowboy, teaches Adj a lot about life ... and how to live it.
- A mysterious poet/philosopher who pens original poems or thoughts nightly on an old blackboard hung near the center of town. The literary offerings become an obsession with the outsider.

And then there's Bob. Bob is sarcastic, funny,and a general mental pain. Bob works overtime to steady Adj's sometimes shaky rudder and helps steer him through the shoals of life. Sometimes Bob wrecks Adj’s life-boat just because it’s so much fun.
Bob is Adj's inner voice, conscience, jabbering psyche … call it what you will. Bob stutters. And does impressions.
